What is a Mini MBA?

A Mini MBA is an intensive business education programme that provides many of the core concepts taught on a traditional MBA, but in a shorter, more practical and accessible format.

Rather than taking years to complete, a Mini MBA is designed for busy professionals who want to develop their commercial knowledge, strategic thinking and leadership skills alongside their day job.

The RTS Mini MBA in TV & Streaming Media is unique because it applies these business principles specifically to the television and streaming industry. It explores how the industry works, how value is created, and the commercial, strategic and financial decisions that shape its future.

Whether you work in commissioning, production, distribution, technology, marketing, finance or another part of the TV ecosystem, the course is designed to help you understand the bigger picture, make better business decisions and think like a leader.

Who is the RTS Mini MBA for?

The RTS Mini MBA is suitable for anybody working within the TV & Streaming Media sector and professionals servicing the industry. It has been designed to help grow current leaders and prepare others for future leadership roles.

Most of our learners are currently working in mid to senior level roles, but we also have graduates exploring career opportunities.

Wherever you work within the industry, the course is designed to fill in the missing gaps and elevate your strategic thinking, so that you can do your job better and open up new career pathways.

If you are ready to progress, and keen to deepen your knowledge and expand your skillset, then this course is for you.

How long does the Mini MBA take to complete?

Each of the 25 modules takes around 5 hours to complete -  some modules are a little longer and some may be a little shorter. The whole course has been designed to be completed in approximately 100 hours.

We recommend aiming to complete a module a week, if you are working full time. This would be a 6-month commitment.

However, the pace you learn at is fully up to you. We understand that sometimes life gets in the way. Equally, if you have a break between contracts you may wish to complete the course much faster.

There is no deadline to finishing the course once you have signed up.

Is there any face-to-face teaching?

The course is delivered online and on-demand, so that learners can complete modules at their own pace.

However, there will be opportunities to join live webinars with industry contributors throughout the year. These will be recorded for those who cannot attend and you can continue to sign up for these events once you have finished the course.

We also bring together learners, graduates and course contributors for quarterly networking and graduation events.

Can I learn at my own pace?

Absolutely. The course is designed to be fully-flexible and self-paced to fit around busy lives.

Each module takes around 5 hours to complete - some are a little longer and some are a little shorter. We recommend aiming to complete a module a week, but your study schedule is up to you.

Will I meet other learners?

Yes! Whilst you will complete the course as an individual there will be opportunities to connect with fellow students through discussion forums, quarterly in-person networking events and a private LinkedIn network for learners and alumni.

We would also recommend studying alongside colleagues if possible, so that you can discuss your learning journeys together.

Do I have to live in the UK to study the course?

Not at all! The course is open to professionals around the world. Whilst it has been structured around the globally-recognised UK market, and features its key players, the content is relevant to the UK and beyond.

Do I need a computer and internet access?

The course needs to be completed on a desktop or laptop to maximise user experience and you will need internet access.

How is learning assessed?

There is a test at the end of each module to help you test your understanding and track your progress. These are not graded and can be retaken until you are happy with your result.

End-of-stream assessments must be passed before you can move on to the next stream.

If you choose to complete the optional final assessment, this will be graded by an NFTS examiner with the opportunity to achieve a distinction.

Do I gain a formal qualification?

The course has been fully accredited by the CPD Standards Office, and is worth 100 CPD points, with an additional 40 points for anyone who completes the optional Independent Research Dissertation.

If you choose to purchase individual streams, each stream is also CPD‑accredited. CPD points are awarded as follows:

- Stream 1: 32 CPD points

- Stream 3: 20 CPD points
- Stream 4: 20 CPD points

The course is updated annually to ensure it is keeping pace with the fast-moving TV and streaming industry.

We also host live webinars throughout the year, which offer a deep dive into current industry news, trends and hot topics.

Is the course accessible?

We are committed to making the course as accessible as possible. Each video is subtitled and transcripts are available. If you have any concerns or specific access requirements, do get in touch and we will do our very best to support you.

Can I experience the course before purchasing?

If you are looking to enrol a team or have any accessibility concerns do get in touch. We'd be very happy to enrol you on a course taster so that you can explore how the platform works in more detail.

Can I download course content to work offline?

Unfortunately the platform does not allow the course to be downloaded or worked on offline due to the size of the video content.

However, we hope to be able to provide revision notes with the next learning platform upgrade.

Can graduates apply for the course?

Absolutely!  All graduates are welcome to join the course. The RTS Mini MBA will give you a valuable overview of the industry, set out career pathways and help your CV to stand out.

The RTS will continue to support RTS Bursary Scholars post-graduation with free access to the Mini MBA.

How is this course different to others on offer?

The RTS Mini MBA offers a complete business overview of the industry - there is no other course like it.

Until now there has been a lack of higher-educational business training for professionals working in or servicing the TV industry. ScreenSkills recently identified a skills gap with many media companies struggling to fill managerial and leadership roles.

Developed with unique access to over 100 industry professionals at the top of their game, the course is built on valuable experience and insider knowledge which can be applied in the real world.

Beyond this course, it would be impossible to access so many industry thought-leaders; here, they will feel like your own personal lecturers.
